Swine Lake

Wondering around tube we stumbled upon this piece of genius:

New Arrivals

Yesterday was a busy day at the shop. The crazy weather must have driven everyone in and out of places. It was mild and raining, then snowing then sunny, then cold and frosty. What a day.
A few jackets in size XL by Armani, Zegna, Pal Zilleri and Boss have been added to my excellent collection, along side new shirts and slacks, and shoes, and ties.
I hope they will find new happy bodies to adorn soon.

The Brazen Hussy

Some time ago I mentioned here a woman shoplifter who graced my beautiful little shop with her "talents".
Well, yesterday the very same one came strolling in. I recognized her instantly. She used the very same words as the last time, which confirmed my recognition. I stood up and said: I must ask you to leave. She mumbled: what? why? and I said: I remember you from the last time. She left.
These people must think shop owners are the most forgetful or forgiving people on earth. It felt good to defend my territory.

Dead Poet - Wislawa Szymborska

Cat in an Empty Apartment
Die—you can't do that to a cat.
Since what can a cat do
in an empty apartment?
Climb the walls?
Rub up against the furniture?
Nothing seems different here,
but nothing is the same.
Nothing has been moved,
but there's more space.
And at nighttime no lamps are lit.

Footsteps on the staircase,
but they're new ones.
The hand that puts fish on the saucer
has changed, too.

Something doesn't start
at its usual time.
Something doesn't happen
as it should.
Someone was always, always here,
then suddenly disappeared
and stubbornly stays disappeared.

Every closet has been examined.
Every shelf has been explored.
Excavations under the carpet turned up nothing.
A commandment was even broken,
papers scattered everywhere.
What remains to be done.
Just sleep and wait.

Just wait till he turns up,
just let him show his face.
Will he ever get a lesson
on what not to do to a cat.
Sidle toward him
as if unwilling
and ever so slow
on visibly offended paws,
and no leaps or squeals at least to start.

A Nobel prize poet who died today, at age 88. May her poems live forever.

Another one of her poems lives here on my blog. I published it shortly after my father's death. It helped.
